Description
The Nettlecote wall light runs wider than it is tall, 300mm across and 180mm high, with two clear glass shades held in an open brushed aged brass frame that projects 152mm from the wall. That horizontal shape is unusual in a wall sconce and genuinely useful: it spreads light sideways along a wall instead of up and down it. Two E14 LED lamps at 7W each sit in the glass, and the fitting weighs 3kg.
Sideways spread suits the places a tall fitting struggles: above a mirror, over a picture, along a low ceilinged hall or in a bedroom where the wall above the bedhead is short. Two fittings flanking a mirror will always beat one above it for even light on a face, but where there is only room for one, a wide frame like this gets closest. Two lamps in a single frame give useful output, and it is dimmable with compatible LED lamps and a dimmer switch, so it can serve as bright dressing light or drop to a low glow later on. We would mount it above a mirror rather than beside one.
The frame is metal in brushed aged brass, matt and softly darkened, and the glass shades come away for washing in warm water and drying fully before refitting. At 3kg it is heavier than most wall lights, so use fixings rated for the weight and the wall type rather than standard plasterboard plugs alone. Mark the fixing centres from the backplate rather than by eye, because a horizontal fitting shows any tilt at once. Rated IP20, it belongs in dry rooms. The Nettlecote pendants use the same frame and glass.

Frequently Asked
What is the Nettlecote wall light made from?
An open metal frame in brushed aged brass with two clear glass shades.
What shape and size is it?
Wider than tall: 300mm across, 180mm high, with a 152mm projection from the wall.
Does the 3kg weight affect fixing?
Yes. Use fixings rated for the weight and your wall type, not standard plasterboard plugs on their own.
Which bulbs does it take?
Two E14 lamps at up to 7W each, dimmable with dimmable LED lamps and a compatible dimmer switch.
Can I fit it above a bathroom mirror?
No. It is rated IP20 for dry rooms, so above a bedroom or hall mirror instead.
How do I clean it?
Remove the glass, wash in warm water, dry fully and refit. A dry soft cloth suits the brushed brass frame.
