Description
This quartz cuckoo wall clock brings the look of a traditional mountain chalet to the wall, with a steep black roof over a light brown house front. Two birds perch either side of a nest at its base, framed by leaves in relief that climb towards the eaves, and a little shuttered door below the roof's peak opens to let the cuckoo look out. The round black dial carries cream Roman numerals and ornate gold-tone hands, so the time reads clearly from across a room. Beneath the house hangs a pendulum topped with a bird in flight, between chains finished with pine cone weights. It measures 19cm wide and 13.5cm deep.
We think it looks happiest where it can be seen: above a fireplace, in a hallway that needs a focal point, or on the wall of a farmhouse-style kitchen or a cosy snug. The light brown and black colouring sits comfortably with natural textures, cream walls, rustic furniture and warm lighting, and its slim 13.5cm depth keeps it close to the wall, so it suits a narrow landing as well as a living room. At 19cm wide it fits neatly between pictures or above a sideboard, and the hanging chains and pendulum add length below.
Being a quartz clock, it runs on three C batteries, which are not included, so keep a set to hand for when it goes up. Allow clear space beneath for the chains and pendulum to hang freely. To keep it looking its best, dust the roof, leaves and birds gently with a soft dry cloth or a soft brush. Hang it at eye level, where the little door and the birds can be admired up close, and pair it with a few framed botanical prints or a row of decorative plates for a cosy cottage wall.
