Description

The Nelbenne is a round, slim LED downlight in white, 38cm across and only 6.5cm deep, so it sits close to the ceiling without dropping into the room. Both the body and the opal diffuser are plastic, finished in white, with a fine white rim around the edge. The LEDs are integrated and draw 21W to give 3,000lm at 4000K, a neutral light that is cooler and crisper than the warm light of a traditional bulb. It is rated IP20, which settles where it goes: indoors, in dry rooms only.

We would put it in a living room, a home office, a hallway or a landing, anywhere you want even, well spread light from one point in the middle of the ceiling. The low profile is the gain in rooms with modest ceiling heights, where a pendant would hang too low, and the plain white disc blends into a white ceiling so the room, rather than the light, takes the eye. In a study the bright neutral white helps at the desk; in a hallway it gives a clear, welcoming light the moment you come through the door.

It is not dimmable and has no switch of its own: it works from your wall switch, so pair it with a standard switch rather than a dimmer. The LEDs are not replaceable, so there is no bulb to buy or change; the light source is part of the fitting itself.
