Description

This cheerful MDF decoration shows a little bear family outside their house, a mother bear holding her cub's paw beside a tall spray of flowers. The house front is a soft pale pink with dark windows and a bright pink door marked NO 1, under a pitched roof in a natural wood-effect finish. Three flat flowers rise beside the roof in pink, orange and yellow, on slim green stems with leaves, and the words MUMMY & ME run along the matching natural base. It stands 12cm tall, 14cm wide and 3cm deep, a small piece that sits happily on a narrow ledge.

Because it stands on its own base, it needs no wall or hook: set it on a bedside table, a bookshelf, a windowsill or a mantelpiece, where the bears and flowers can be enjoyed every day. We think it makes a lovely Mother's Day gift, the sort of small, thoughtful present a child can choose for Mum, and the NO 1 on the door says just what many of us would like to tell her. At 14cm wide it tucks in beside a card or a vase without crowding them, so it can stay out long after the day itself.

The piece is made from MDF, with the house, the bears and the flowers cut as flat shapes and layered on the base, so it has a little depth and catches the light from the side. The printed details are crisp and simple, from the brick marks on the pink wall to the round centres of the flowers. To keep it fresh, dust it now and then with a soft dry cloth and keep it in a dry room, away from steam and damp, as is good practice for MDF. For Mother's Day, give it with a handwritten card from the little one, and Mum has a gift to keep on show all year round.
