Description

This hand painted metal trinket box shows a mother owl and her baby perched side by side on a gnarled branch, the little one tucked close against its mother. Both owls are white with brown markings on their wings and around their dark eyes. Each wears a gold-tone cap set with clear sparkling stones between two small brown ear tufts. Gold-tone trim runs around the larger owl's shoulders and marks the line of the lid. Their gold feet grip a brown branch that stands on gold-tone tips. It measures 6.4cm tall, 5.5cm wide and 3.4cm deep, so it sits in the palm of your hand.

At that size it fits easily on a dressing table, a bedside table or a bookshelf, where it adds a little sparkle without taking up room. Inside the mother owl is a small hollow, painted a warm orange, for something precious: a ring, a pair of stud earrings, a tiny charm or a folded note. Keeping a favourite piece of jewellery here means it is always in one place, and the box is pretty enough to leave out between uses.
