Description
The Morris is a large table lamp built around a hand-painted Chinese porcelain vase base decorated with gold floral motifs on a deep black glaze. The porcelain base stands 390mm tall on a solid wooden plinth, topped with a 460mm cream polycotton box pleat shade and an aged brass finial. An E27 bulb (sold separately, max 60W) sits inside the shade and casts light through the pleated fabric.
Designed for sideboards, console tables and bedroom dressers in traditional, classical and heritage interiors, the Morris pairs ambient and decorative function. The 730mm overall height suits rooms with 2.4m+ ceilings and furniture at 700-900mm height, where the shade sits at or just above eye level when standing. The 460mm shade width requires a minimum table surface of 500mm to avoid overhang, making it suitable for wider console tables, double-width bedside cabinets and sideboard tops.
The porcelain base is hand-painted rather than transfer-printed, so the gold floral pattern varies slightly between individual lamps depending on the artist who decorated the piece. The deep black glaze underneath provides contrast to the gold, while the cream shade softens the light output and reduces glare. The wooden base adds approximately 1.8kg of weight low down, giving the lamp stability on polished surfaces without needing felt pads. The aged brass finial ties the cream shade to the gold decoration on the base.
From Elstead Lighting, a UK-based manufacturer with a 75-year heritage in traditional and classical lighting. The Morris is part of a wider collection of Chinese porcelain table lamps in various sizes and finishes.

Frequently Asked
What bulb does the Morris take?
The lamp takes a standard E27 (Edison screw) bulb up to 60W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with a warm-white LED between 6-10W and 2700K-3000K to match the traditional aesthetic and provide ambient light without excessive brightness.
What table width does it need?
The 460mm shade requires a minimum table surface of 500mm width to avoid overhang. The lamp suits console tables, wide sideboards and double-width bedside cabinets. For narrower surfaces, consider the smaller Morris variant.
Is the gold pattern hand-painted?
Yes. The gold floral motif is hand-painted onto the porcelain base rather than transfer-printed, so each lamp shows slight variation in the placement and density of the decoration. This is characteristic of artisan-made porcelain rather than a defect.
Can the shade be replaced?
The cream box pleat shade is a standard 460mm diameter fitting. Replacement shades in different colours or styles can be sourced if preferred, provided they match the E27 lamp holder configuration and the shade carrier dimensions.
