Description
This miniature steam train mantel clock sets a small round dial into the front of a glossy black locomotive, right where the smokebox door would sit. It is made from metal alloy with a gloss black finish, and the detailing is picked out in bright silver: spoked wheels joined by coupling rods, a ribbed cowcatcher at the front, pipework along the side of the boiler and a polished bezel framing the white dial. A tall chimney and a cab with four-pane windows complete the engine, with two small red lamps beneath the dial. It stands 7cm tall, 4cm wide and 10cm deep from the dial to the back of the cab, so it is genuinely small.
Being so compact, it is happy on a mantelpiece, a bookshelf, a desk or a bedside table, anywhere a full-sized clock would crowd the space. The dial reads clearly at a glance, with black Arabic numerals on a white face and slim hands, so it works as an everyday clock rather than an ornament alone. The black and silver colouring sits comfortably beside dark wood, painted shelves or a row of books, and it brings a little character to a study or a living room without needing much surface.
Inside is a quartz movement with an analogue display, powered by one LR66 battery, which is included, so it is ready to set and stand straight from the box. It is freestanding on its wheels and needs no wall or fixing. To keep the gloss finish and silver detail looking bright, dust it with a soft dry cloth and avoid abrasive polishes. We like it set on a shelf at eye level where the wheels and pipework can be seen from the side, or wrap it as a small, useful gift that will earn its place every day.

What battery does it take, and is it included?
It runs on one LR66 battery, and that battery is included, so the quartz movement is ready to go once you set the time.
What is the clock made of?
The clock is made from metal alloy with a gloss black finish, and the wheels, cowcatcher, pipework and bezel around the dial are bright silver.
Is the dial easy to read?
Yes, it has an analogue dial with black Arabic numerals on a white face and slim hands, so the time is easy to read at a glance.
