Description
This miniature cassette radio mantel clock packs a whole retro portable stereo into a rectangular metal case small enough to sit in the palm of your hand. Its silver metallic effect finish is picked out in black, and the detail is remarkable for the size: two round speaker grilles in black mesh with bright silver rims, a tuning scale across the top marked fm 80 to 108 and am 540 to 1600, a row of knobs and buttons, two tiny gauges, and a carry handle and pair of aerials along the top. The clock face sits where the tape deck would be. It is white with black hands and a little cassette drawn across the dial, with the word QUARTZ printed beneath. It measures 8cm high, 8cm wide and 2cm deep.
At just 2cm deep, it sits happily on a mantelpiece, a narrow bookshelf, a bedside table or a desk, keeping the time without claiming much room. On a study shelf among records, books and photographs it becomes a little talking point. On an office desk it gives a working day a cheerful nod to mixtapes and the weekly chart countdown. The rectangular shape and flat base let it stand neatly at the front of a shelf where the speaker detail can be seen. As a gift it is easy to wrap and full of character for its size.
It is a quartz clock, as the dial says, and runs on one LR66 button cell battery. The battery is included, so the clock is ready to set and stand straight from the box. The metal body has a silver metallic effect finish. To keep it bright, dust it with a soft dry cloth and keep it away from water. Turn it slightly on a shelf so the knobs, gauges and speaker grilles catch the light, or wrap it up as a small gift with a big personality.
