Description
This miniature mantel clock is shaped like a golf caddy, a little white buggy complete with a roof, bench seats and two blue golf bags filled with clubs at the back. The clock sits at the front under the roof, with a white rectangular face, black Arabic numerals and slim black hands, all framed in a bright silver-tone surround. It is made from metal alloy with a plated finish, and the small touches are what make it: cream seats with black grab rails, a black steering wheel, a little basket by the bags and silver hubcaps on black tyres. It stands 7.5cm high, 5cm wide and 10cm deep.
Small as it is, it is a working clock, so it earns its place on a mantelpiece, a bookshelf or a bedside table as well as on a desk in a study or home office. At just 5cm wide it fits a narrow ledge, and the clear numerals read easily at a glance. It brings a touch of the fairway indoors all year round, and it sits happily beside trophies, framed scorecards or a row of golfing books. Because it is a model as much as a clock, it tends to start a conversation, which is half the fun of having it on show.
Inside is a quartz movement with an analogue dial, powered by one LR66 battery, which is included. The metal alloy body has a plated finish, and the silver-tone surround and hubcaps catch the light nicely against the white. To keep it looking its best, dust it with a soft dry cloth, using a small soft brush to reach between the seats and clubs, and keep it away from damp. Set at eye level on a shelf, it shows off the bags and roof as well as the dial, and with its battery included it is ready to give as a cheerful present.
