Description
The Miners is a 370mm outdoor pedestal lantern built around a traditional hurricane lamp silhouette, with a seeded glass chimney suspended inside an old bronze metal frame. The frame echoes the shape of a miner's oil lantern, complete with a carrying loop at the top and a cross-wire guard across the glass. A single E27 bulb fitting sits inside the seeded glass chimney, which scatters the light through its textured surface to create a warm, diffused glow.
Designed for mounting on gate posts, low boundary walls, and pathway plinths, the lantern suits traditional, cottage and period-style gardens where a historic aesthetic is wanted without sacrificing modern weather resistance. The IP44 rating provides protection against rain splashes and windblown debris, making the fitting suitable for exposed positions including coastal and rural locations. The 200mm width and 131mm projection fit most standard gate post caps and wall pier tops without overhanging.
The old bronze finish is a dark, weathered brown-bronze with subtle tonal variation that mimics aged metalwork. This pairs well with brick, stone, painted timber gates and cast iron railings. The seeded glass has a bubble-textured surface that hides the bulb from direct view when lit, softening the light output and reducing glare for anyone approaching the gate or pathway. The E27 socket accepts LED, halogen or traditional filament bulbs up to 60W, giving flexibility to match the light temperature and output to the specific location.

Frequently Asked
What does IP44 mean for outdoor use?
IP44 provides protection against solid objects larger than 1mm and water splashes from any direction. This makes the Miners suitable for exposed gate posts, wall piers and pathway plinths where rain and wind are expected, but not for positions where the fitting would be directly hosed down or submerged.
What bulb should I use?
The lantern takes a standard E27 bulb up to 60W, sold separately. Most users pair this with a warm-white LED bulb between 4-8W and 2200K-2700K to match the period aesthetic. A filament-style LED bulb works well behind the seeded glass for a traditional lantern appearance.
What surface does it mount to?
The Miners is a pedestal lantern designed to sit on top of a gate post, wall pier or pillar. It requires a flat surface at least 200mm square and fixes down through the base. The base plate has pre-drilled holes for screws or bolts depending on the post material.
Can the glass be replaced if damaged?
The seeded glass chimney is a replaceable component. Contact Elstead Lighting or Niori with the model number (MINERS-PED) to source a replacement glass if the original is damaged.
