Description
The Miners is a 425mm outdoor wall lantern styled after traditional mining lamps, with an old bronze finish over a metal frame enclosing seeded glass. The lantern houses a single E27 bulb fitting (bulb sold separately) behind the glass, which creates a diffused ambient light through the textured surface and the decorative wire cage around the glass cylinder.
Designed for front doors, porch areas, garage entrances and garden pathways, the lantern carries an IP44 rating for outdoor use, protecting against rain and dust. The 148mm projection from the wall allows the lantern to clear most door frames and wall cladding, while the 200mm width keeps the fitting proportionate against typical residential brickwork. The mounting bracket is fixed to the wall behind the decorative backplate, with the lantern body hinged at the top to allow access for bulb changes.
The old bronze finish shows intentional tonal variation and a slightly textured surface to replicate aged metal patina. The seeded glass contains small bubbles and surface irregularities characteristic of hand-blown or moulded vintage glass, scattering light in multiple directions rather than projecting it as a single beam. The wire cage around the glass cylinder is both decorative and protective, preventing direct contact with the glass and adding to the historical mining lamp aesthetic. The E27 socket accepts standard LED, halogen or filament bulbs up to 60W, giving control over colour temperature and brightness.

Frequently Asked
What does the IP44 rating mean for outdoor use?
IP44 provides protection against solid objects larger than 1mm and water splashing from any direction. This makes the lantern suitable for covered porches, eaves, and pathway positions where it is exposed to rain but not direct high-pressure water jets or submersion.
What bulb should I use?
The lantern takes a standard E27 bulb up to 60W. Most users pair this with a 6-10W warm-white LED bulb at 2700K for a soft ambient glow that suits the vintage styling. Filament-style LED bulbs complement the seeded glass and traditional aesthetic.
How is the bulb accessed for replacement?
The lantern body is hinged at the top where it meets the wall bracket, allowing it to swing open for bulb access. This avoids the need to remove the entire fitting from the wall when changing bulbs.
Can this be used in coastal or high-salt environments?
The old bronze finish is applied over metal and may show accelerated weathering in coastal areas with high salt exposure. Regular cleaning and inspection are recommended if installing within 1-2 miles of the coast.
