Description

A wall light, 31cm tall, in brushed nickel. At 15cm wide it is about the width of a laptop. A wall light puts illumination at head height without using a table or a floor, which is why it suits a hallway, a stairwell or the side of a bed better than any lamp.

Silver and chrome sit comfortably with grey, blue and black schemes where a warm metal would fight them. Marble effect earns its place where actual stone would be impractical — a piece that has to hang on a wall, or one that would be immovable in the real material. The veining repeats where quarried stone would not, which is the tell if you look for it.

Wiring is for 1 E14 lamp up to 10-12W LED, supplied separately. E14 is the standard screw fitting, so a replacement is a supermarket purchase rather than a specialist one. It is dimmable, so the level is set at the wall rather than fixed at the bulb. The head adjusts, so you can aim the light at a book rather than a ceiling. A Candle shaped bulb, which is the word to look for on the box.

Two shades of the same size can light a room completely differently depending on how open the top and bottom are. A narrow top pushes light down into a pool; a wide one lets it wash the ceiling as well. Dust is the whole of the maintenance and it matters more than it sounds: an even film of dust on a shade dims a room by more than most people would guess, and a soft brush restores it in a minute.
