Description

This ceramic vessel scented candle takes the shape of Mickey Mouse's head, from the round bowl that holds the wax to the lid with its two famous ears. The whole piece is finished in matt black, so the silhouette reads cleanly, and the smooth curves of the ceramic give it a soft, sculpted look. Lift the lid and you find a single wick set in white wax that fills the bowl almost to the rim. It stands 13cm tall, 14.4cm wide and 10.2cm deep, a size that sits comfortably on a shelf or bedside table without crowding it.

With a burn time of 40 hours, this black candle gives plenty of evenings of gentle light in a living room, bedroom, study or hallway. When it is not lit, the lid goes back on and it becomes a neat little sculpture of the character, just as at home on a bookcase or dressing table as on a coffee table. The black finish suits a monochrome scheme, sits well beside wood and brass, and keeps the playful shape feeling grown up rather than nursery bright. It is an easy present to give, because the shape tells the story before the lid is lifted.

The vessel is ceramic with a smooth matt surface, and the lid lifts straight off the bowl, so lighting the wick is simple. Stand it on a flat, stable surface away from draughts, curtains and anything that could catch, trim the wick before each lighting, and never leave a burning candle unattended or within reach of children and pets. Put the lid back only once the flame is out and the wax has cooled. Dust the ceramic with a soft dry cloth, or wipe it with a damp cloth when it is cool. Set this scented candle on a small tray beside a stack of books, and let the ears do the rest.
