Description

The Knightsbridge metalclad 6-8 gang surface mount back box is a 138mm square, 44mm deep steel enclosure designed to house modular grid faceplates with 6 to 8 module positions. The box mounts directly onto a wall surface without requiring a cut-out or flush installation, making it suitable for environments where surface wiring is specified or where the wall substrate does not allow flush mounting.

Designed for use in industrial, commercial and utility installations where metalclad wiring accessories are required for durability or safety reasons, the box pairs with two GDF002F 3-4 gang grid mounting frames to support up to 8 modular grid positions, or with GDFP006M and GDFP008M metalclad faceplates. The 44mm depth provides clearance for switch and socket mechanisms, cable terminations and grid module back boxes without crowding the internal space.

The box is pressed from premium grade steel with an IP20 rating for indoor use, and includes a fixed earth terminal for bonding the metalwork to the circuit protective conductor. Pre-punched knockouts on all four sides allow cable entry from any direction, and the box edges are rolled to minimise sharp corners. The 25-year warranty reflects the expected lifespan of the steel construction in typical commercial and light industrial settings.

What faceplates and frames does this box support?

The box accepts two GDF002F 3-4 gang grid mounting frames to hold 6-8 modular grid positions, or the GDFP006M and GDFP008M metalclad faceplates. These components are sold separately.

Can it be used outdoors?

No. The IP20 rating is for indoor dry locations only. For outdoor or wet environments, a higher IP-rated enclosure is required.

Where are the cable entry points?

The box has pre-punched knockouts on all four sides, allowing cable entry from the top, bottom, left or right depending on the cable run direction.

Is the earth terminal suitable for connecting multiple circuits?

Yes. The fixed earth terminal inside the box allows bonding of the steel enclosure and connection of circuit protective conductors from multiple grid modules or circuits within the box.
