Description

The Knightsbridge M8900 is a 2-gang metal clad back box in powder-coated steel, measuring 138mm wide by 78mm high with a 44mm projection from the wall. The box provides a surface-mounted enclosure for switches, sockets and other double-gang accessories where flush installation into the wall is not possible or desirable, such as in workshops, garages, industrial settings and solid masonry walls.

Designed for residential and commercial applications, the box accommodates any standard 2-gang accessory and provides knockout points for cable entry on all sides. The powder-coated steel construction resists corrosion and impact damage better than plastic alternatives, making it suitable for high-traffic areas and environments where mechanical protection is needed. An integral earth terminal allows bonding to the main earthing system.

The IP20 rating confirms protection against solid objects larger than 12.5mm, suitable for indoor dry locations but not for outdoor or wet environments. The 44mm depth provides clearance for most standard accessories and wiring terminations without requiring deeper projection from the wall. The box comes empty — accessories are purchased separately and screwed to the front plate fixing points.

What accessories fit this box?

Any standard 2-gang switch, socket or accessory designed for surface mounting will fit. The box provides fixing points for screwing the accessory faceplate directly to the front of the enclosure. Accessories are purchased separately.

Can this be used outdoors?

No. The IP20 rating is suitable for indoor dry locations only. For outdoor or wet environments, you need a weatherproof enclosure with IP55 or higher rating.

How is the box fixed to the wall?

The rear of the box has pre-drilled mounting holes for screws. Mark the fixing positions, drill and plug the wall, then screw the box securely in place before running cables through the knockout points and fitting the accessory.

Does it include an earth terminal?

Yes. An integral earth terminal inside the box allows bonding to the main earthing system, providing continuity between the metal enclosure and the protective earth conductor.
