The Knightsbridge metal clad 13A 1-gang unswitched socket combines the outlet and back box in a single powder-coated steel enclosure. The unswitched design provides a constant live feed to the outlet, making it suited to appliances that need permanent mains supply such as freezers, fridge-freezers, server equipment, or where the appliance has its own integrated switch.

Designed for workshops, garages, industrial environments, utility rooms and outdoor covered areas where surface-mounted wiring is more practical than flush mounting, the 82mm square steel enclosure projects 45mm from the wall and requires no separate back box or chasing into masonry. The powder-coated finish resists corrosion and impact damage in higher-wear environments, and the IP20 rating provides basic protection against solid objects over 12.5mm while keeping the unit suitable for dry indoor or covered outdoor locations.

The socket is certified to BS 1363-2 and rated at 13A on 230V mains, handling continuous loads up to 2,990W. Screw terminals inside the enclosure accept standard UK ring-main cable. The metal construction provides Class I earthing, with an integral earth terminal for protective bonding. Why choose an unswitched socket over a switched one?

Unswitched sockets provide a permanent live feed to the outlet, which suits appliances that need constant power such as freezers, servers, security equipment, or appliances with their own integrated switch. There is no rocker switch to accidentally turn off and interrupt the power supply.

Does the socket come with a back box?

Yes. The metal clad design integrates the back box into the socket enclosure, so no separate back box is needed. The unit surface-mounts directly to the wall with screws through the fixing points in the steel enclosure.

What IP rating does it carry?

IP20. This provides basic protection against solid objects over 12.5mm in diameter but offers no moisture ingress protection. The socket is suitable for dry indoor environments or covered outdoor areas such as garages and workshops where it is protected from direct rain.

What cable does it accept?
