Does this socket need a separate back box?

No. The MR9124 is supplied complete with an integral metal back box, so it can be surface-mounted directly onto a wall, stud or mounting board without requiring a separate flush or surface box.

Can it be used outdoors?

The IP20 rating provides no moisture protection, so this socket is suitable only for dry indoor locations or covered outdoor areas where it will not be exposed to rain, condensation or splashing water.

What is the USB charging output?

Both USB-A ports share a 5V DC 2.4A output. When one device is connected it can draw up to 2.4A; when two devices are connected the 2.4A is shared between them, reducing individual charging speed.
