Description

The Mercury conversion lead connects a UK 13A household socket to a Ceeform (IEC60309) inlet, allowing caravans, motorhomes and camping equipment to draw mains power from standard domestic outlets. The lead consists of a moulded UK 3-pin plug on one end and a blue Ceeform socket on the other, with a weather-resistant hinged cap on the Ceeform socket to protect the contacts when not in use.

Used primarily in domestic driveways and garages for pre-cooling caravan fridges before departure, or for running mains appliances inside a motorhome while parked at home. The 250mm length keeps the connection compact, minimising trip hazards when the lead is plugged into a wall socket near ground level. The lead conforms to BS1363-1 for the UK plug and IEC60309-1/2 for the Ceeform socket, providing compatibility with standard European caravan inlet sockets rated at 16A.

The moulded construction on both plug and socket gives strain relief at the cable entry points, reducing the risk of cable damage when the lead is flexed or coiled for storage. The blue Ceeform socket indicates a 230V single-phase connection, distinguishing it from other IEC60309 colours used for different voltages or phases in industrial and marine applications.

Frequently Asked

What's the maximum load this lead can carry?

The UK plug is rated at 13A on 230V, giving a maximum load of approximately 3,000W. The Ceeform socket typically supports 16A, so the limiting factor is the 13A UK plug. Do not exceed 13A continuous draw when using this lead.

Is it suitable for outdoor use?

The Ceeform socket has a weather-resistant cap, but the lead is not rated for permanent outdoor installation. It's designed for temporary connection in sheltered conditions such as under a carport or inside a garage. Do not leave the lead exposed to rain or standing water.

Does it fit all caravan hook-up inlets?

The blue Ceeform socket fits standard European caravan and motorhome mains inlets that conform to IEC60309-2 (CEE17). Older or non-standard caravan inlets may require a different adapter.

Can I use this to power my caravan fridge at home before a trip?

Yes. This is the primary use case. Plug the UK end into a household socket and connect the Ceeform socket to your caravan inlet. This allows the fridge to cool down overnight before departure, saving gas and reducing warm-up time on site.
