Description

The Mercury inline fuse holder accepts standard 5x20mm glass fuses and provides in-line circuit protection for low-voltage wiring. The white plastic housing uses a bayonet-style fixing that locks the two halves together with a quarter-turn, preventing accidental opening during installation or vibration. Pre-fitted 18cm red insulated wire leads extend from each end of the holder, allowing the unit to be spliced directly into existing cable runs.

Designed for automotive, audio, LED strip lighting and custom electronics applications where a fuse needs to be added mid-circuit rather than at a panel or distribution board. The 2.5A current rating suits low-draw applications such as car accessories, 12V LED installations, model railways and marine electronics. The bayonet fixing makes fuse replacement quick without requiring the holder to be unwired or removed from the installation.

The red wire insulation matches standard automotive positive cable colour coding, though the holder itself is not polarity-specific and can be fitted to either positive or negative runs depending on the application. The white plastic housing is approximately 40mm long when closed and fits easily within cable looms, behind dashboards and inside equipment enclosures. Fuses are sold separately.

Frequently Asked

What size fuse does it take?

The holder accepts standard 5x20mm glass fuses, which are the most common small fuse format for automotive and low-voltage electronics. Fuses are not included and must be purchased separately based on the required current rating for your application.

How is the bayonet fixing used?

The two halves of the holder twist-lock together with a quarter-turn bayonet mechanism. To replace the fuse, twist the housing anticlockwise to release, swap the fuse, then twist clockwise to lock closed. This means fuse replacement can be done without unwiring the holder.

Can it be used on AC or DC circuits?

The holder is rated for DC applications up to 2.5A. While it will physically work on low-voltage AC circuits, the 2.5A rating and 5x20mm fuse format are most commonly used in 12V DC automotive and electronics applications.

What wire gauge are the pre-fitted leads?

The 18cm leads are standard automotive-grade insulated wire suitable for the 2.5A rating. For splicing into existing wiring, the leads can be stripped back and connected using crimp connectors, solder joints or terminal blocks depending on the installation environment.
