Description

The Mercury Hi-Flex is a 2-core speaker cable with a purple LSZH (low smoke zero halogen) outer sheath, supplied as two 50m reels for a total 100m length. Each core carries 24 strands in a 0.75mm² cross-sectional area, split between 12 oxygen-free copper strands and 12 CCA (copper-clad aluminium) strands for a balance of conductivity and flexibility.

Designed for residential and commercial audio installations where cable needs to be routed through tight bends, behind walls or under floors, the Mercury Hi-Flex combines a 7mm outer diameter with double insulation to maintain flexibility without compromising the conductor count. The LSZH sheath material is RoHS-compliant and produces minimal smoke and no halogen-based fumes in fire conditions, making it suitable for public buildings, schools and enclosed spaces where evacuation routes require visibility.

The purple sheath provides visual identification for audio circuits in mixed-service installations where multiple cable types run in parallel. Each reel handles up to 6A continuous current, covering typical passive speaker loads at 4-8 ohms over runs up to 30m without significant voltage drop. The combined oxygen-free copper and CCA conductor mix gives adequate signal transmission for background music, PA and home cinema applications where premium audiophile-grade pure copper is not specified.

Frequently Asked

What does LSZH mean and why does it matter?

LSZH stands for low smoke zero halogen. In a fire, LSZH cable produces minimal smoke and no halogen-based toxic fumes, maintaining visibility in evacuation routes and reducing respiratory hazards. This makes it mandatory or strongly recommended in public buildings, schools, hospitals and multi-occupancy residential installations.

What's the difference between oxygen-free copper and CCA conductors?

Oxygen-free copper has higher conductivity and lower resistance than CCA (copper-clad aluminium). The Mercury Hi-Flex uses both to balance cost and performance — the oxygen-free copper strands carry the majority of the signal, while CCA adds flexibility and reduces weight. For critical audiophile setups, a pure oxygen-free copper cable would offer marginally better performance.

How is the 100m supplied?

The 100m total is packed as two separate 50m reels. This allows installers to run two separate circuits from a single order, or to use one reel per installation phase without handling a single heavy 100m drum.

What speaker impedance and cable length is this suitable for?

At 0.75mm² CSA, this cable suits passive speakers at 4-8 ohms over runs up to 30m without significant voltage drop affecting speaker performance. For longer runs or lower-impedance speakers, a larger CSA cable would be recommended.
