Description

The Mercury Hi-Flex is a 2 x 2.5mm² speaker cable supplied on a 100m reel, built around dual solid copper and copper-clad aluminium (CCA) conductors wrapped in a double-insulated black PVC sheath. Each core comprises 40 strands of 0.2mm copper plus 39 strands of 0.2mm CCA, giving the cable both conductivity and flexibility while keeping the 10mm overall diameter manageable for routing through conduit, along trusses, or across stage floors.

Designed for fixed and portable PA installations, live sound environments, conference halls and distributed speaker systems, the cable handles continuous current up to 14A per core without excessive voltage drop over typical speaker run lengths. The double-insulated construction provides mechanical protection against abrasion and repeated flexing, making it suitable for flightcases, cable ramps and installations where the cable is coiled and uncoiled regularly.

The 100m reel length covers most medium to large installations without mid-run joints, reducing potential points of failure and simplifying cable management. The black PVC sheath blends into stage and installation environments without drawing attention, and the stranded construction maintains flexibility even after prolonged use. What's the difference between solid copper and CCA strands?

Each core combines 40 strands of pure copper with 39 strands of copper-clad aluminium. The copper provides conductivity while the CCA reduces weight and increases flexibility. What speaker impedance loads does it support?

The 2.5mm² cross-sectional area and 14A current rating suit passive speaker systems at 4Ω, 8Ω or 16Ω impedance. For typical PA applications, runs up to 30-50m at 8Ω maintain acceptable voltage drop without requiring amplifier output adjustment.

Is the cable suitable for outdoor installation?

The double-insulated PVC sheath provides mechanical protection and moisture resistance for temporary outdoor events. For permanent outdoor installation exposed to UV and weather, a UV-stabilised or outdoor-rated cable would be more appropriate.

Can the cable be cut to custom lengths?

Yes. The 100m reel can be cut to any required length on site using standard cable cutters. Strip the PVC sheath and individual conductor insulation to prepare terminations for screw terminals, binding posts or solder connections.
