Description

The Mercury heavy duty figure 8 speaker cable is a 2.50mm² twin-conductor cable with 2 x 79 strands per core, combining 40 strands of copper and 39 strands of copper-clad aluminium (CCA) in each conductor. The white PVC sheath carries a black polarity marking line down one side to identify positive and negative during installation, and the figure 8 profile allows the cable to be split down the centre when terminating at connectors.

Designed for professional audio installation, PA systems and commercial sound distribution, the cable handles up to 25A maximum current and suits medium to long cable runs where flexibility and pulling ease matter. The 100m reel length covers typical room-to-room installations in commercial venues, schools, conference centres and multi-zone audio systems without requiring mid-run joints. The 5mm x 10mm cross-section fits standard cable glands and clips used in commercial installation.

The hybrid copper/CCA construction keeps cost down while maintaining conductivity for audio signals — the copper strands carry the signal with minimal loss, while the CCA strands provide mechanical strength and reduce overall cable weight. The white sheath blends into ceilings and wall runs in office and hospitality environments, and the black polarity line remains visible even when the cable is pulled through conduit or clipped to trays.

Frequently Asked

What's the difference between copper and CCA conductors?

Copper-clad aluminium (CCA) is an aluminium core with a thin copper coating. Pure copper offers better conductivity and lower resistance, but CCA reduces weight and cost while maintaining acceptable performance for speaker cable runs under 30 metres. This cable uses both — 40 pure copper strands and 39 CCA strands per core — balancing performance and economy.

Can the two cores be separated?

Yes. The figure 8 profile allows the cable to be split down the centre join when terminating at speaker terminals or connectors. This makes stripping and terminating easier than separating round twin-core cable.

What gauge wire is 2 x 79 strand?

The 2 x 79 strand configuration gives a total cross-sectional area of 2.50mm² per core. In AWG terms this is roughly equivalent to 13 AWG, though the strand count and construction differ from standard AWG wire.

Is this suitable for permanent installation?

Yes. The PVC sheath is rated for permanent installation in conduit, cable trays and ceiling voids typical in commercial audio systems. The 25A current rating covers standard passive speaker loads at distances typical in conference rooms, function halls and multi-room audio systems.
