Description

The Mercury figure 8 speaker cable uses two parallel 7-strand conductors in a flat configuration, each core combining 4 copper strands and 3 copper-clad aluminium strands for a 0.18mm² cross-sectional area. The cable has a black PVC sheath on one core and a white polarity line on the second, making it straightforward to maintain correct phase when wiring multiple speakers or running long parallel runs.

Designed for light-duty audio installations where runs do not exceed 10-15m per speaker and power handling stays below 50W, the cable suits background music systems, small PA setups, multi-room audio distribution and budget home hi-fi. The figure 8 profile makes the cable easy to route along skirting boards, under carpets or through cable trays without the stiffness of round twin-core cable. The 100m reel provides enough length for a typical 4-6 zone commercial audio system or a domestic whole-house distribution with sensible routing.

The 2.0 x 4.0mm flat profile is thin enough to fit behind most wall plates and under doors without creating trip hazards or visible floor bulges. The copper/CCA conductor blend keeps cost down while maintaining acceptable conductivity for the 1.0A maximum current rating. For runs longer than 15m or higher-power applications, a thicker cable (0.5mm² or 0.75mm²) is recommended to avoid voltage drop and power loss.

Frequently Asked

What's the maximum speaker distance this cable can handle?

For speakers up to 50W, keep runs under 10-15m to avoid voltage drop. Beyond 15m or for higher-power speakers, use a thicker cable with 0.5mm² or 0.75mm² CSA to maintain signal quality and power delivery.

What does the white polarity line indicate?

The white line runs along one of the two cores, marking it as the positive conductor. Use this consistently across all speakers in a system to maintain correct phase and avoid cancellation when speakers are paired or grouped.

Can this cable be used outdoors?

The PVC sheath is not UV-stabilised or waterproof. For outdoor speaker runs, use cable rated for external use or run this cable inside conduit to protect it from UV degradation and moisture.

What's the difference between copper and CCA conductors?

Copper-clad aluminium (CCA) has an aluminium core with a thin copper coating. It's lighter and cheaper than pure copper but has slightly higher resistance. The Mercury cable uses a mix of both to balance cost and performance for light-duty audio applications.
