Description

The Mercury economy transparent speaker cable carries audio signals through two parallel conductors, each built from 45 strands of 0.2mm copper clad aluminium wire, giving a combined 1.5mm² cross-sectional area per core. The cable is rated to 15A maximum current and supplied on a 100m reel with a clear PVC sheath and red polarity stripe running along one conductor to simplify wiring.

Designed for medium-power distributed audio in retail, hospitality, small commercial installations and domestic multi-room setups, the cable suits passive speaker runs where conductor cost is a primary concern and audiophile-grade oxygen-free copper is not required. The figure-8 profile measures 3.8mm x 7.6mm overall, making it narrow enough to route through standard cable trunking, under carpets or along skirting board clips. The 100m reel length supports multiple speaker drops from a single spool without joins.

Copper clad aluminium conductors provide lighter weight and lower material cost than solid copper cable, trading some conductivity for economy on longer runs where voltage drop is not critical. The transparent sheath allows visual confirmation of conductor condition during installation and the red polarity line ensures consistent phase across all speakers in a multi-zone system. The cable accepts termination with screw terminals, solder lugs, banana plugs or bare wire connections depending on amplifier and speaker binding post types.

Frequently Asked

What's the difference between copper clad aluminium and pure copper speaker cable?

Copper clad aluminium (CCA) uses an aluminium core with a thin copper coating, offering lighter weight and lower cost than pure copper. Pure copper has better conductivity and is preferred for longer runs or higher-power applications, but CCA performs adequately for medium-power distributed audio where budget is a constraint.

What speaker impedance and run length does this cable suit?

The 1.5mm² CSA suits 8-ohm speakers on runs up to 15-20m from the amplifier without significant voltage drop affecting performance. For 4-ohm speakers or runs exceeding 20m, consider stepping up to a larger CSA cable to maintain efficiency.

How is the polarity marking used during installation?

The red stripe runs along one conductor to mark positive polarity. Connect the red-marked conductor to the positive terminal on both the amplifier and speaker ends of each run, ensuring all speakers are wired in phase across the system.

Can this cable be used outdoors?

No. The clear PVC sheath is not UV-stabilised or rated for outdoor exposure. For outdoor speaker runs, use cable specifically rated for external installation with weatherproof jacket construction.
