Mercury Dummy Dome CCTV Camera with Flashing Red LED - Black

The Mercury is a dummy dome CCTV camera designed to mimic the appearance of a functioning surveillance camera without the wiring, recording or monitoring capability. A single red LED inside the translucent dome flashes at regular intervals when the unit is switched on, powered by two AA batteries housed in the base. The camera consists of a 112mm diameter dome mounted on a dark grey plastic base with fixing points for ceiling or soffit installation.

Designed for residential properties, small businesses, sheds and outbuildings where the presence of a camera acts as a deterrent without the cost or complexity of a wired CCTV system, the Mercury can be surface-mounted to a ceiling or overhang in under ten minutes using the supplied fixing screws. The on/off switch is activated by pressing the dome, allowing the flashing LED to be disabled when not needed to conserve battery life. At 56g, the camera is light enough to be mounted on plasterboard ceilings without additional support.

The translucent dome reveals a visible internal structure that resembles a camera lens assembly when viewed from below, adding to the visual credibility. The flashing LED draws approximately 10-15mA, giving a battery life of several weeks to a few months depending on usage patterns and battery quality. The dark grey base blends into most ceiling surfaces and the 70mm base diameter allows installation over a standard electrical junction box if a recessed appearance is preferred.

Does it record or transmit video?

No. The Mercury is a dummy camera designed solely as a visual deterrent. It contains no camera module, no recording capability and no wireless or wired connectivity. The only active component is the flashing red LED.

How long do the batteries last?

Battery life depends on usage and battery quality. With the LED flashing continuously, two AA alkaline batteries typically last several weeks to a few months. Switching the unit off when not needed extends battery life significantly.

Can it be used outdoors?

The Mercury is not rated for outdoor use and carries no IP rating. It can be used in covered outdoor locations such as under eaves, in porches or in covered walkways where it remains protected from direct rain, but should not be exposed to weather or moisture.

How is the LED switched on and off?

Press the dome to activate the internal switch. Press again to turn the LED off. This allows you to disable the flashing LED when battery replacement is needed or when the deterrent effect is not required.
