Description

The Mercury 3-gang switched fused mains outlet combines three individually switched 13A sockets behind a white plastic faceplate, supplied with a surface-mount back box for installation where flush mounting is not possible or practical. Each socket has its own red rocker switch with an illuminated indicator showing when power is on, and the unit includes an integral fuse holder providing circuit protection beyond the individual socket outlets.

Designed for workshops, offices, utility rooms and kitchens where multiple appliances need power access from a single mounting point, the surface-mount back box allows installation directly onto plasterboard, brick, block or timber without chasing out the wall. The 42mm projection from the wall gives clearance for cable entry from behind or through knockouts on the back box sides. The 205mm width fits between standard 225mm stud centres when mounted on timber studwork.

Built to BS1363 standards, the outlet handles up to 13A per socket at 250Vac mains voltage, giving a combined maximum load of 39A if all three sockets are used simultaneously — though practical use rarely reaches this. The white finish on both faceplate and back box provides a clean appearance in domestic and light commercial settings. The red rocker switches are raised slightly above the faceplate surface, making them easy to operate while wearing gloves or when the socket is mounted low on a wall.

Frequently Asked

What is the difference between this and a flush-mount socket?

This unit comes with a surface-mount back box that sits on top of the wall rather than being recessed into it. Surface mounting is faster to install where chasing out the wall is not possible, such as on plasterboard, tiled surfaces or in rented properties where structural alteration is restricted.

What does the integral fuse holder protect?

The fuse holder provides an additional layer of protection for the entire outlet unit, sitting upstream of the three individual sockets. This means a fault on one socket can blow the central fuse without affecting the building's ring main, making fault-finding easier.

Can all three sockets be used at the same time?

Yes. Each socket is rated to 13A at 250Vac, giving a theoretical combined load of 39A. In practice, the outlet is suited to multiple low-draw appliances rather than three high-load devices simultaneously — typical uses include charging tools, running desk equipment or powering kitchen small appliances.

Does it comply with UK wiring regulations?

Yes. The unit is built to BS1363 standards and is suitable for installation in accordance with the 18th Edition IET Wiring Regulations. Installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician.
