Description

The Mercury is a 2-core speaker cable with a 1.5mm² cross-sectional area per conductor, supplied on a 100m reel in a black double-insulated PVC sheath. Each core comprises 48 strands (24 copper + 24 copper-clad aluminium) giving the cable flexibility for routing through joists, walls and conduit in fixed audio installations.

Designed for connecting passive speakers to amplifiers in home cinema, multi-room audio, commercial PA systems and installed sound setups, the Mercury handles up to 8A continuous current. The 8mm overall diameter allows the cable to be run through standard back boxes and wall cavities without excessive bulk. The double insulation removes the need for separate earthing, simplifying installations where CPC runs are not available.

The black PVC sheath provides basic mechanical protection and UV resistance for indoor routing behind walls, under floors and through ceiling voids. The hybrid copper and copper-clad aluminium construction balances conductivity with cost and weight, making the Mercury suited to medium-run installations (under 30m per run) where pure copper cable would add significant cost without audible benefit at domestic listening levels.

What's the difference between copper and copper-clad aluminium conductors?

Each core contains 24 solid copper strands and 24 copper-clad aluminium (CCA) strands. Copper offers better conductivity; CCA reduces weight and cost. For runs under 30m the hybrid construction delivers good audio performance at domestic listening levels.

What speaker impedance does this cable support?

The 1.5mm² CSA supports 4-ohm, 6-ohm and 8-ohm passive speakers on typical domestic and commercial runs. Longer runs (over 20m) to 4-ohm speakers may benefit from upgrading to 2.5mm² cable to reduce voltage drop.

Is this cable suitable for outdoor use?

The black PVC sheath provides basic UV resistance but the cable is not rated for permanent outdoor exposure or direct burial. For outdoor speaker installations use a cable rated IP65 or higher, or run the Mercury inside waterproof conduit.

How is the cable packaged?

The 100m length is supplied on two 50m reels, allowing easier handling and storage than a single 100m drum. Each reel can be used independently for medium-length runs or combined for longer installations.
