Description

The Mercury Economy is a 2-core speaker cable with copper-clad aluminium (CCA) conductors in a transparent PVC sheath, supplied on a 100m reel. Each core consists of 24 strands of 0.2mm diameter wire, giving a combined cross-sectional area (CSA) of 0.75mm² per core. A red polarity indicator runs along one core to simplify correct phase wiring during installation.

Designed for low-to-medium power PA systems, distributed audio in commercial spaces, and home hi-fi installations where moderate cable runs are needed, the transparent sheath allows the cable to blend into skirting boards, white walls and ceilings without drawing visual attention. What's the difference between CCA and pure copper speaker cable?

Copper-clad aluminium (CCA) has an aluminium core with a thin copper coating. It's lighter and lower-cost than pure copper, but has slightly higher resistance. For short-to-medium cable runs under 20m at typical home hi-fi or light PA power levels, the performance difference is negligible. For long runs or high-power professional PA, pure copper cable (OFC) provides better conductivity.

How do I identify polarity when wiring?

One core has a red polarity indicator printed or embedded along its length. This core is conventionally connected to the positive (+) terminal on both the amplifier and speaker to maintain correct phase. The other core connects to the negative (−) terminal.

What power can this cable handle?

The 6A maximum current rating supports approximately 50W RMS per channel into an 8Ω speaker load. This suits typical bookshelf speakers, ceiling speakers in distributed audio systems, and small PA satellite speakers in commercial settings.

Can it be used outdoors?
