Description
The Mercury figure 8 speaker cable is a 2 core power and audio cable with 24 strands per core (12 copper, 12 copper-clad aluminium), giving a combined cross-sectional area of 0.61mm² per conductor. The red and black PVC sheath makes polarity identification straightforward during installation, and the flat figure-8 profile allows the cable to sit neatly against walls, under carpets and through vehicle door frames without excess bulk.
Designed for low-power speaker runs, in-car audio systems, and small automotive electrical wiring where current draw stays below 6A, the cable is flexible enough to route through tight spaces and around corners without kinking. The 100m reel suits workshop, installation and automotive trade use where multiple runs are needed from a single bulk spool. Typical applications include connecting ceiling speakers to an amplifier, running speaker wire to rear parcel shelf speakers in vehicles, and wiring low-voltage LED strips or small 12V accessories.
The hybrid copper and copper-clad aluminium construction keeps cost down while maintaining adequate conductivity for short to medium speaker runs up to 10-15 metres. The 2.8 x 5.6mm profile is compact enough to hide behind skirting or inside cable conduit, and the figure-8 format allows the two cores to be split apart cleanly where needed for connections to terminal blocks or speaker binding posts. The PVC sheath provides basic insulation and abrasion resistance for indoor and dry automotive environments.

Frequently Asked
What's the maximum current rating?
The cable is rated to 6A maximum. This is adequate for most passive speaker connections and small 12V automotive accessories, but not for mains power applications or high-current equipment.
Can the two cores be separated?
Yes. The figure-8 profile allows the red and black conductors to be split apart cleanly where needed for connections to separate terminals. A sharp blade or craft knife can separate the cores along the length if required.
Is it suitable for outdoor or wet environments?
The PVC sheath provides basic insulation for indoor and dry automotive use. It is not rated for outdoor burial, continuous UV exposure or submersion. For permanent outdoor speaker runs, use cable with UV-stabilised or weatherproof sheath.
What speaker impedance and run length does it suit?
With 0.61mm² CSA, the cable is best kept to runs under 15 metres for 8-ohm speakers to avoid noticeable signal loss. For longer runs or 4-ohm loads, consider stepping up to 1.5mm² or 2.5mm² cable to reduce resistance.
