Description

The Mercury 100V line speaker cable is a 2-core stranded conductor cable built for professional PA and distributed audio systems, supplied on a 100m reel. Each core contains 40 copper strands and 39 copper-clad aluminium strands at 0.18mm diameter, giving a combined 2.01mm² cross-sectional area per conductor. The cable uses double insulation with red and black inner sleeves around each core, then a white PVC outer sheath rated to carry up to 25A.

Designed for fixed installation in commercial buildings, houses of worship, schools and hospitality venues where 100V line distributed audio runs over long distances, the cable connects between 100V line amplifiers and ceiling speakers, wall-mounted speakers or horn speakers on a shared loop. The 8mm outer diameter balances flexibility during installation with mechanical protection once terminated. The white sheath allows the cable to run visibly along skirting or ceiling edges in finished spaces without drawing attention.

The hybrid copper/CCA construction reduces material cost compared to pure copper while maintaining acceptable conductivity and current-handling for typical 100V line loads. The double insulation provides additional protection against abrasion during pulls through conduit and reduces the risk of short circuits in crowded back boxes or ceiling voids. The 100m reel length suits medium to large installations without requiring joins mid-run.

Frequently Asked

What is 100V line and where is it used?

100V line is a distributed audio system used in commercial installations where multiple speakers run from a single amplifier over long cable runs. The higher voltage allows lower current for the same power, reducing voltage drop and allowing thinner cable than low-impedance systems.

Can this cable be used for low-impedance (4/8 ohm) speakers?

Yes. The cable construction is electrically suitable for both 100V line and low-impedance speaker connections. However, the 2.01mm² CSA may not be sufficient for very long low-impedance runs — calculate voltage drop based on your specific run length and speaker load.

What is the difference between copper and copper-clad aluminium conductors?

Copper-clad aluminium (CCA) uses an aluminium core with a thin copper outer layer, reducing material cost and weight compared to pure copper. It has slightly higher resistance than pure copper but is widely used in fixed PA installations where the trade-off is acceptable.

Is the cable suitable for outdoor use?

The white PVC sheath provides moisture resistance for sheltered outdoor applications such as under eaves or in covered walkways. For direct burial or permanent outdoor exposure, use cable rated for external/underground installation.
