Description

The Mercury is a 2.01mm² cross-sectional area 100V line speaker cable supplied on a 100m reel, designed for fixed PA installations in commercial, hospitality and public-address systems. Each of the two cores contains 40 strands of 0.18mm copper plus 39 strands of 0.18mm copper-clad aluminium, giving a hybrid conductor that balances cost with conductivity. The outer sheath is black PVC with an 8mm overall diameter.

100V line distribution systems step down from high-voltage, low-current transmission to speaker-level output at the endpoint, reducing power loss over long cable runs in large buildings. The 2.01mm² cross-section handles up to 25A maximum current, making the Mercury suitable for runs of 30-50m between amplifier and speaker transformer in typical office, retail or warehouse installations. The 100m reel length allows multiple drop points to be cut from a single spool without needing joints mid-run.

The hybrid copper/CCA construction reduces material cost compared to pure copper while maintaining acceptable resistance for 100V line runs. Red and black inner insulation on the two cores simplifies polarity identification during termination. The black PVC outer sheath resists UV degradation and mechanical abrasion in ceiling voids, trunking and conduit installations. The cable is not rated for outdoor burial or direct exposure to weather.

What is the maximum run length for 100V line systems?

Run length depends on the total speaker load and amplifier output. As a general guide, a 2.01mm² cable like the Mercury supports 30-50m runs in typical commercial PA installations before voltage drop becomes significant. For longer runs or higher loads, step up to a larger CSA cable or consult a PA system designer.

Can this be used for low-impedance speaker systems?

The cable is designed for 100V line distribution but can also be used for low-impedance speaker runs (4Ω, 8Ω) where the run length is short enough to avoid excessive resistance. For low-impedance runs over 10m, a larger CSA cable is usually recommended.

Is the cable suitable for outdoor or buried installation?

No. The black PVC sheath is rated for indoor use only, in ceiling voids, trunking or conduit. It is not rated for direct burial, outdoor exposure or UV resistance beyond incidental ceiling void lighting.

What is copper-clad aluminium (CCA)?

CCA is aluminium wire with a thin copper coating. It reduces material cost compared to pure copper but has slightly higher resistance. The Mercury uses a hybrid construction with both copper and CCA strands in each core, balancing cost and conductivity for 100V line applications.
