Description

The Mercury 100V line speaker cable is a 1.15mm² twin-core cable designed for fixed public address and distributed speaker installations running on 100V line systems. Each core combines 25 copper strands and 20 copper-clad aluminium strands in a hybrid conductor configuration, with red and black inner insulation identifying polarity, all enclosed in a 7.8mm white PVC outer sheath.

Supplied on a 100m reel, the cable suits permanent installations in commercial buildings, retail spaces, warehouses, schools and offices where multiple speakers are wired in parallel from a central 100V line amplifier. The double-insulated construction provides protection against short circuits and voltage leakage without requiring an earth conductor, simplifying installation in surface-mounted trunking or ceiling voids where access for testing is limited.

The 1.15mm² cross-sectional area handles up to 15A maximum current, supporting high wattage runs to multiple speakers across typical commercial floor areas without significant voltage drop. The white outer sheath blends against white ceilings and walls in commercial interiors, or can be painted over once installed. The hybrid copper/CCA conductor keeps the cable lighter and more cost-effective than pure copper equivalents while retaining stable signal transmission for voice and background music applications.

Frequently Asked

What is 100V line and why is it used?

100V line systems allow multiple speakers to be wired in parallel from a single amplifier, with each speaker fitted with a step-down transformer. This configuration reduces current requirements and allows long cable runs without significant voltage drop, making it common in commercial PA installations.

What's the maximum run length before voltage drop becomes an issue?

At 1.15mm² CSA and 15A maximum current, typical commercial installations can run 50-80m from the amplifier to the furthest speaker depending on the total wattage tapped from the line. For precise calculations based on your specific speaker taps and layout, consult a qualified installer.

Can this cable be used outdoors?

The PVC sheath is suitable for indoor installations and protected outdoor locations such as covered walkways or under eaves. For fully exposed outdoor runs, UV-resistant cable or protective conduit is recommended.

Is the cable compatible with standard low-impedance speakers?

This cable is electrically compatible with any speaker cable application, but it is specifically designed for 100V line distributed systems. For standard low-impedance (4Ω/8Ω) speaker connections in home audio or live sound, thicker gauge cable is typically preferred for runs over a few metres.
