Description

The Mantle is a 327mm semi-flush ceiling light from Quoizel, featuring a shallow prismatic glass bowl suspended 246mm below a palladian bronze ceiling mount on three curved metal arms. The fitting takes two E27 bulbs (sold separately), with the prismatic glass diffusing light evenly across a room rather than casting it downward in a focused beam.

Designed for rooms with standard 2.4m ceilings where a pendant would hang too low, the semi-flush profile keeps the glass dome within 25cm of the ceiling plane. This makes it suitable for living rooms, bedrooms, hallways and dining rooms where overhead movement happens regularly. The 327mm diameter provides enough spread for rooms up to 4m x 4m without dominating the ceiling visually.

The palladian bronze finish is a warmed, slightly aged bronze tone with hints of copper undertone, darker than polished brass but lighter than oil-rubbed bronze. The prismatic glass uses a radial ribbed pattern moulded into the bowl, creating concentric rings that catch light and break it into soft refractions when the bulbs are lit. Each bulb sits inside the bowl rather than beneath it, so the glass acts as the primary diffuser. The three curved support arms echo traditional gas-light era fittings while the overall proportions suit both period and contemporary interiors.

Frequently Asked

What bulbs does it take and are they included?

The Mantle takes two E27 (Edison screw) bulbs up to 60W each. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with warm-white LED bulbs between 6-10W and 2700K-3000K for ambient room lighting.

What ceiling height is needed?

The 246mm projection from the ceiling makes this suitable for standard 2.4m ceiling heights. Rooms with ceilings below 2.3m may find the fitting sits too close to head height in circulation areas.

What size room does it suit?

The 327mm diameter and two-bulb configuration provide enough spread for living rooms, bedrooms and dining rooms up to approximately 4m x 4m. Larger rooms may benefit from pairing two Mantle fittings or supplementing with task lighting.

Is the glass removable for bulb changes?

Yes. The prismatic glass dome is held by a threaded finial at the base. Unscrew the finial, lower the glass bowl, change the bulbs, and reverse the process to reassemble.
