Description

The Manhattan is a 184mm outdoor chain pendant with a clear glass cylinder housed in a die-cast oil rubbed bronze frame inspired by traditional train station lanterns. A single E27 bulb (sold separately, up to 60W) sits inside the glass enclosure, protected by the metal framework above and below. The hand-painted oil rubbed bronze finish brings out the architectural lines of the metalwork while the clear glass keeps the light source visible.

Designed for covered outdoor locations such as front porches, rear patios, garage side entries and covered walkways, the Manhattan carries an IP23 rating which provides protection against rain driven at angles up to 60° from vertical. The 1000mm chain allows drop adjustment between 355mm and 1340mm on installation, giving flexibility to suit different ceiling heights and clearance requirements. The square ceiling canopy measures approximately 120mm and fits standard UK outdoor ceiling roses.

The die-cast construction gives the frame a solid 2.5kg weight without being oversized, making it substantial enough for exposed positions without overwhelming a typical residential porch. The oil rubbed bronze finish shows darker charcoal tones in the recesses and lighter bronze highlights on raised edges, creating depth across the vertical and horizontal frame elements. The clear glass cylinder is removable for bulb changes and cleaning, held in place by the top and bottom metalwork.

The Manhattan carries an IP23 rating, which protects against rain driven at angles up to 60° from vertical. This makes it suitable for covered outdoor locations such as porches, covered patios and garage side entries where it receives shelter from above. It is not rated for fully exposed positions with no overhead cover.

What bulb does it take?

The pendant takes a standard E27 (Edison screw) bulb up to 60W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with a warm-white LED bulb between 6-10W at 2700K for outdoor ambience, or a clear filament-style LED to complement the train station lantern aesthetic.

How is the drop adjusted?

The 1000mm chain is adjustable on installation by removing links to shorten the overall drop. The minimum drop of 355mm includes the ceiling canopy and fitting body; the maximum of 1340mm uses the full chain length. Once installed, the drop is fixed until the fitting is taken down and re-hung.

How is the glass cleaned?

The clear glass cylinder can be removed by loosening the bottom metalwork section, allowing access for cleaning. Use a soft cloth with warm soapy water or glass cleaner, then dry thoroughly before reassembling. Clean when the fitting is cool and the power is off.
