Description

The MagPro addressable thermal detector from ESP operates as either a fixed temperature sensor or a rate-of-rise sensor, with the mode selectable from the control panel. Certified to EN54-5, the detector can be configured as Class A1R (rate-of-rise), A2S (static high temperature), or BS (both) depending on the application requirements and the zone's fire risk profile.

Designed for commercial fire alarm installations where heat detection is preferred over smoke detection — such as kitchens, plant rooms, dusty workshops, or areas with high ambient moisture — the MagPro covers up to 35m² and can be mounted at heights up to 3.5m. The low-profile design sits flush to the ceiling, and the LED indicator provides 360° visibility for commissioning, testing and fault identification.

The detector includes day/night mode functionality, allowing sensitivity to be adjusted for occupied and unoccupied periods. This reduces false alarms during cooking or manufacturing processes while maintaining full sensitivity overnight. The detector weighs 120g and requires a separate base (MAGPRO-DB, MAGPRO-DBS or MAGPRO-DBSI), sold separately, which fixes to standard UK back boxes and allows the detector head to be twisted on and off without re-wiring.

Frequently Asked

What's the difference between fixed temperature and rate-of-rise operation?

Fixed temperature mode triggers an alarm when the detector reaches a preset threshold (typically 58°C or 78°C). Rate-of-rise mode triggers when the temperature increases rapidly regardless of absolute temperature, catching fast-developing fires earlier. The MagPro can be configured as either mode or both (Class BS) from the control panel.

Is the base included?

No. The detector head is supplied separately from the base. You will need to order a MAGPRO-DB, MAGPRO-DBS or MAGPRO-DBSI base depending on whether you need a standard base, a base with sounder, or a base with sounder and isolator.

What is day/night mode?

Day/night mode allows the detector's sensitivity to be adjusted depending on occupancy. During the day, sensitivity can be reduced to prevent false alarms from normal heat sources like cooking or machinery. At night, sensitivity is increased to detect developing fires when the building is unoccupied.

What ceiling height and area does it cover?

The MagPro is rated for installation up to 3.5m ceiling height and covers a protected area of up to 35m². Actual coverage depends on the building layout, ceiling construction, and fire risk assessment — consult EN54-5 or BS 5839-1 for spacing requirements in specific applications.
