Description

The MagPro 16 Loop Expander is a single-loop expansion card designed for ESP MagPro fire alarm control panels, adding capacity for up to 250 addressable devices on one additional loop. The card installs directly into the control panel's expansion slot, providing additional zone coverage for larger commercial and industrial fire alarm systems that exceed the base panel's loop capacity.

Designed for installation by qualified fire alarm engineers, the expander suits buildings requiring extended coverage across multiple floors, wings or zones where a single loop is insufficient. Each addressable device on the loop (detectors, call points, sounders, input/output modules) occupies one address, allowing the system to pinpoint the exact location of a fire event or fault. The card communicates with the main panel via the internal bus, with no external wiring between the expander and the panel required beyond the outgoing loop cable.

The PCB measures approximately 140mm x 110mm and weighs 90g, fitting standard MagPro panel enclosures without modification. The board carries loop interface circuitry, onboard monitoring, and fault detection for short circuits, open circuits and device communication errors. Software version 1.2 (visible on the board) is the current release compatible with MagPro panel firmware. The card draws power from the panel's internal supply and does not require separate battery backup.

Frequently Asked

How many expander cards can one panel support?

The number of loop expander cards a MagPro panel can accommodate depends on the specific panel model and its available expansion slots. See the main panel's datasheet or contact ESP technical support to confirm the maximum number of loops supported.

Does the card require separate power?

No. The expander draws power from the main panel's internal supply. The panel's power supply and battery backup must be sized to accommodate the additional load from the expander card and the devices connected to its loop.

Is the card compatible with all MagPro panels?

The MagPro 16 Loop Expander is designed for ESP MagPro addressable fire alarm control panels. Compatibility with specific panel firmware versions should be confirmed before installation. The card is running software version 1.2.

What happens if the loop is overloaded?

If more than 250 devices are programmed onto the loop, the panel will flag a configuration error. The loop will not operate correctly with more than its rated capacity, and the system will fail commissioning tests.
