Description

Small, dark and directional, this is a spotlight head made for the Magneto track system and finished in black so it reads quietly along a black run. The head is 65mm across and short in the body, and the beam it throws is narrow rather than broad, so light lands in a pool instead of washing the whole room. The LED and driver are integral and rated at 20W, and the colour is a warm 3000K that sits well with timber, brass and warm paint. It dims with a triac dimmer, which is bought separately.

Track earns its keep where a ceiling light on its own cannot cover a room. In a kitchen you can concentrate heads over the worktop and the sink; in a sitting room you can put light on pictures, shelves and a reading chair, then take the whole run down low in the evening. It suits open-plan spaces, hallways hung with art, and home offices where glare on a screen matters. We would use several heads along a run rather than a lone one, since a row reads as lighting and a solitary head looks like an afterthought.

The black finish covers the whole head, so nothing catches the eye except the light itself. Keep it dry: switch the run off at the wall, let the head cool, then take dust off with a dry cloth and leave solvents and sprays well away from the finish. It belongs indoors, in rooms that stay dry, and it carries a three year warranty.
