Description

The MAGfire fire panel isolator switch is a wall-mounted red isolator designed to cut mains voltage supply to fire alarm control panels and associated equipment during maintenance work. The switch features dual-pole switching that isolates both live and neutral conductors, complying with BS5839 Part 1 requirements for fire detection and alarm systems in non-domestic premises.

Installed adjacent to fire alarm panels in plant rooms, communications rooms and service cupboards, the red faceplate and "FIRE ALARM DO NOT SWITCH OFF" text provide clear visual identification and discourage accidental operation by untrained personnel. The key-operated rotary switch prevents unauthorised isolation of the fire system and ensures only qualified engineers can disable the panel during servicing. A power indicator light confirms when the supply is active.

The switch body measures 105mm x 98mm x 68mm and weighs 240g, mounting directly onto a standard 25mm back box or surface-mounted enclosure. The rotary mechanism switches between ON and OFF positions with a positive detent and includes provision for lockout with a padlock or interlock device where site protocols require additional security. The red thermoplastic faceplate resists impact and maintains colour stability under prolonged exposure to fluorescent and LED lighting in plant rooms.

Frequently Asked

What is BS5839 Part 1 compliance?

BS5839 Part 1 is the British Standard code of practice for the design, installation, commissioning and maintenance of fire detection and fire alarm systems in non-domestic premises. This isolator switch complies with the standard's requirements for isolating mains supply to fire panels during servicing while preventing unauthorised operation.

Can the switch be locked in the OFF position?

The key-operated rotary switch prevents casual operation by untrained personnel. For sites requiring additional security, the switch body includes provision for padlock or interlock devices to physically lock the switch in either position during maintenance or commissioning work.

What voltage rating does it carry?

Check the specification sheet in the Downloads tab for the exact voltage and current rating. The switch is designed for mains voltage fire alarm control panel installations in the UK.

Does it isolate both live and neutral?

Yes. The switch uses dual-pole switching to isolate both the live and neutral conductors simultaneously, which is a requirement of BS5839 Part 1 for fire alarm panel isolators.
