Description
The MAGfire 4 Zone Conventional Fire Alarm Kit is a complete fire detection and alarm system built around the MAG4P 4-zone control panel from ESP. The kit includes six detection devices (five PSD-2 optical smoke detectors with bases and one FHD-2 fixed temperature heat detector with base), two SCP-2R resettable manual call points, two BA-2R banshee sounders, and a 12V 7.0Ah sealed lead-acid battery for backup power during mains failure.
Designed for small commercial premises, workshops, offices, and residential buildings requiring compliant fire detection, the MAGfire system divides a building into up to four detection zones. Each zone can be wired with multiple detectors and call points, allowing the control panel to identify which area of the building has triggered an alarm. The MAG4P panel provides zone indication, fault monitoring, and silenceable alarm outputs, meeting requirements for conventional fire systems under BS 5839-1.
The PSD-2 optical smoke detectors use a light-scatter chamber to detect visible smoke particles from smouldering fires, making them suited to escape routes, offices, and bedrooms. The FHD-2 heat detector activates at a fixed temperature threshold, typically used in kitchens, boiler rooms, and areas where smoke detectors would false-alarm. The two resettable call points allow manual activation of the alarm, and the two banshee sounders deliver the audible warning throughout the protected area. The 7Ah battery provides standby power for 24 hours and alarm power for 30 minutes under typical load conditions.
The system complies with The Construction Products Directive (CPD: 89/106/EEC) and carries CE marking. Installation must be carried out by a competent fire alarm installer in accordance with BS 5839-1 and local building regulations. The kit does not include cable, conduit, or fixing hardware — these are specified separately based on the building layout and zone design.

Frequently Asked
What size building does this kit cover?
Coverage depends on the building layout, ceiling height, and detector spacing requirements under BS 5839-1. The five smoke detectors and one heat detector typically cover 200-400m² when zoned appropriately, but a professional fire risk assessment is required to determine exact coverage and zone allocation for your building.
Does the kit include cable and fixing hardware?
No. The kit includes the panel, detectors, call points, sounders and battery only. Fire-rated cable, conduit, back boxes, fixing screws and zone end-of-line resistors must be specified separately based on the building's zone design and cable run distances.
Can additional detectors or sounders be added?
Yes. Each of the four zones on the MAG4P panel supports multiple detectors and call points wired in parallel, up to the panel's maximum zone load capacity. Additional sounders can be added to the alarm output circuit. Consult the MAG4P datasheet for maximum device counts per zone and sounder circuit loading.
Who can install this system?
Installation must be carried out by a competent fire alarm installer with knowledge of BS 5839-1 and the relevant building regulations. The system requires correct zone design, cable specification, earthing, and commissioning to meet compliance and insurance requirements.
