Description

The MagDuo detector head removal tool is a black polymer instrument designed to disengage the chamber from ESP MagDuo FlexiPoint detectors, sounders and strobes installed on 2-wire fire alarm systems. The tool features a castellated crown that locates into the detector head, allowing the chamber to be twisted and released from its base without requiring ladders or direct hand access.

Used during routine maintenance, testing and detector replacement on fire alarm installations, the tool provides a controlled method of removing detector heads from ceiling-mounted bases, particularly on installations where detectors sit above 3m ceiling height. The central stem includes a threaded socket that accepts standard extendable poles, turning the 150mm handheld tool into a 3-6m reach device depending on pole length.

The polymer construction weighs 50g and resists accidental short-circuits if the tool contacts exposed terminals during removal. The castellated crown matches the locking tabs on MagDuo FlexiPoint detector heads, providing positive engagement without requiring excessive force. Once the detector head is released, the tool allows the chamber to be lowered on the pole without dropping or damaging the detector electronics.

Frequently Asked

Which detectors does this tool fit?

The tool is designed specifically for ESP MagDuo FlexiPoint detectors, sounders and strobes. It will not fit other detector ranges or manufacturers' products. Check your detector base marking to confirm MagDuo FlexiPoint compatibility before ordering.

Can it attach to an extendable pole?

Yes. The central stem has a threaded socket that accepts standard decorator's poles and telescopic extension poles, allowing the tool to reach detectors on ceilings up to 6m high depending on pole length.

Is the tool electrically insulated?

The black polymer construction resists accidental short-circuits if the tool contacts exposed terminals during detector removal, but it is not rated as a certified insulated tool for live working. Always isolate the fire alarm loop before removing detector heads.

How does the removal process work?

Locate the castellated crown of the tool into the detector head locking tabs, twist anticlockwise to release the chamber from the base, then lower the detector on the pole. The detector head remains engaged with the tool during lowering, preventing drops.
