Description

The ESP MagDuo is a 2-wire combined smoke and heat detector offering seven selectable detection modes including standalone smoke detection, standalone heat detection, and combined smoke/heat response. The detector uses optical smoke sensing and thermistor-based heat sensing inside a 150mm diameter white plastic housing with a built-in mounting base.

Designed for commercial fire alarm installations where flexibility in detection mode is required without changing hardware, the MagDuo allows installers to configure sensitivity and response type via DIP switches on the device. The 2-wire connection simplifies installation compared to 4-wire detectors, running power and alarm signal on the same pair. The built-in End of Line function eliminates the need for separate EOL resistors in addressable or conventional fire alarm panels that support this feature.

The detector self-calibrates every six hours to compensate for dust accumulation and environmental drift, extending service intervals between manual cleaning. Continuous dust contamination monitoring triggers a fault signal when the optical chamber reaches a threshold where cleaning is necessary, preventing nuisance alarms from gradual sensor degradation. The 150mm base footprint fits standard UK fire detector mounting boxes and the 80mm overall height allows installation in locations with limited ceiling void clearance.

Frequently Asked

What are the seven detection modes?

The MagDuo offers standalone smoke detection, standalone heat detection, combined smoke and heat detection requiring both sensors to trigger, and variations on sensitivity thresholds for each mode. The specific modes and configuration method are detailed in the product manual linked above.

What is the built-in End of Line function?

The detector includes an integrated EOL resistor function that eliminates the need for separate physical EOL resistors at the end of detector loops in fire alarm panels that support this feature. Check your panel's compatibility before relying on the built-in EOL.

How often does the detector need cleaning?

The MagDuo self-calibrates every six hours and monitors dust contamination continuously. When the optical chamber reaches a threshold requiring cleaning, the detector signals a fault to the control panel. Typical service intervals depend on the installation environment but range from 12 to 24 months in most commercial settings.

What wiring is required?

The detector operates on a 2-wire connection, carrying both power and alarm signal on the same pair. The device wiring base is included and accepts standard fire alarm cable. Wiring polarity and voltage requirements are specified in the installation manual.
