Description

The Mabell is an asymmetric wall light built around a single E14 bulb encased in a hand-blown glass dome set within a chrome-plated metal shell. The glass dome sits off-centre within the organic, egg-shaped chrome form, which measures 27.5cm tall and 20.8cm wide at its widest point. The chrome shell wraps around the bulb in a fluid curve, creating different profiles depending on viewing angle.

Designed for hallways, living room accent positions, and bedroom reading corners, the Mabell functions as both task and decorative lighting. The chrome surface reflects ambient light during the day, acting as a sculptural object when the bulb is off. When lit, the E14 bulb (sold separately) casts light through the blown glass, which then reflects off the interior chrome surface and back out into the room. The IP20 rating limits the fitting to indoor dry locations only.

The chrome finish is high-polish, giving strong reflections that shift as you move past the fitting. The hand-blown glass shows slight irregularities and bubble inclusions typical of artisan glasswork, so each Mabell differs slightly from the next. The 12.8cm projection from the wall suits alcoves and narrower hallways where a fitting with less forward reach is needed. The metal construction and chrome plating give the fitting a substantial weight despite its compact dimensions.

What bulb does it take?

The Mabell takes a single E14 (small Edison screw) bulb up to 40W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users choose a warm-white LED candle or golf ball bulb at 4-6W and 2700K-3000K to suit the contemporary aesthetic.

Can it be used in bathrooms?

No. The IP20 rating means the fitting is not protected against moisture ingress and must only be installed in dry indoor locations outside bathroom zones.

Does the glass vary between fittings?

Yes. The glass dome is hand-blown, so each piece shows slight variation in thickness, bubble patterns and tonal clarity. This is characteristic of artisan glasswork and not a defect.

How is the chrome surface cleaned?

Wipe gently with a soft microfibre cloth. For fingerprints or smudges, a barely-damp cloth with distilled water works well. Avoid abrasive cleaners, polishes or household sprays that can damage the chrome plating.
