Description

The Lyndon is an outdoor wall lantern with an architectural bronze finish, a curved gooseneck arm and a seeded glass cone shade. The fitting houses a single E27 bulb (sold separately, up to 60W) behind the textured glass, which creates a diffused light pattern when lit. The IP44 rating protects the internal components from water splashes and solid objects above 1mm, making the lantern suitable for covered porches, patio walls and front door positions with overhead shelter.

Designed for residential entrances and garden walls where traditional detailing suits the architecture, the Lyndon sits 381mm tall and projects 203mm from the wall on its curved arm. The 152mm-wide shade allows the lantern to fit into narrower spaces between windows or alongside doorframes without overwhelming the wall. The bronze finish darkens over time when exposed to moisture and UV, developing a natural patina that varies depending on the installation environment.

The seeded glass is intentionally bubbled and textured during manufacture, giving each shade a slightly different pattern of light and dark spots when the bulb is lit. This diffuses the light output and softens the glare from bare filament bulbs, creating ambient rather than focused light. The lantern fixes to a standard UK outdoor electrical back box and wiring, with the circular wall plate covering the mounting point once installed. From Kichler, the Lyndon carries a 3-year manufacturer's guarantee.

Frequently Asked

Can the Lyndon be used in fully exposed outdoor positions?

The IP44 rating protects against water splashes from any direction, but not sustained rain or water jets. The lantern suits covered porches, patio walls under eaves and entrance areas with overhead shelter. For fully exposed positions without any cover, consider a lantern with IP65 rating or higher.

What bulb type works best with the seeded glass?

The fitting takes any E27 bulb up to 60W. Most users pair this with a warm-white LED filament bulb between 4-8W and 2200K-2700K to complement the bronze finish. The seeded glass diffuses the light, so clear filament bulbs produce a more defined glow pattern than frosted LED bulbs.

Will the bronze finish change colour over time?

Yes. The architectural bronze finish develops a natural patina when exposed to moisture and UV. The rate and tone of change depend on local climate and the amount of direct sunlight the lantern receives. This patina is a characteristic of bronze finishes and not a defect.

How is the lantern mounted?

The circular wall plate fixes to a standard UK outdoor electrical back box with two screws. The lantern assembly then attaches to the wall plate, concealing the wiring and mounting point. Installation requires mains electrical connection and should be carried out by a qualified electrician.
