Description

The Luminous is a 51cm LED picture light with an integrated 12.5W 3000K LED running the length of a white powder-coated metal housing. An opal plastic diffuser along the front face spreads the warm white light evenly across the surface of framed artwork, reducing hard shadows and glare that can obscure detail in paintings, prints and photographs.

Designed to be mounted on the wall directly above medium-sized artwork or along the top of a gallery wall grouping, the Luminous sits 15mm tall and projects 92mm from the wall once installed. The IP20 rating limits use to dry indoor spaces — living rooms, hallways, bedrooms, dining rooms and home offices. The fitting mounts to a standard UK wall using the integrated backplate and concealed fixings, and connects to mains via a junction box or spur behind the artwork.

The white finish allows the fitting to blend into white or light-coloured walls, placing visual emphasis on the illuminated artwork rather than the light source itself. The 3000K colour temperature produces a warm white output that flatters oil paintings, watercolours and warm-toned prints without shifting colour perception. The metal housing acts as a heatsink for the LED, keeping operating temperatures stable across extended daily use.

Manufactured by Ideal Lux in Italy, the Luminous carries a 5-year warranty covering the LED driver and light source. The integrated LED cannot be replaced, so the entire fitting is treated as the light source over its rated lifespan.

What size artwork does the 51cm length suit?

Is the Luminous dimmable?

No. The integrated LED driver does not support dimming. If dimming control is required, consider picture lights with external drivers or separate bulb fittings that accept dimmable LED sources.

Can the LED be replaced when it fails?

The LED is integrated into the fitting and cannot be replaced separately. The entire fitting is the light source. Ideal Lux rates the LED lifespan at approximately 25,000-30,000 hours depending on operating conditions, which equates to around 10-15 years of typical domestic evening use.

Does it need to be hardwired?

Yes. The Luminous connects to mains 230V via a junction box or fused spur, typically positioned behind the artwork or inside the wall cavity. There is no plug or switched cable — installation by a qualified electrician is recommended.
