The Lornette is a half-moon wall light in chrome, with a white painted glass diffuser sitting on a chrome-finished steel back plate. A clear edge runs around the glass, with a fine line traced just inside it, so the white centre looks crisp against the chrome. It measures 29cm long and 14.5cm high, and it stands just 8.5cm out from the wall, so it keeps a low profile in a narrow hallway. It takes an E27 bulb up to 60W, which is not included, so you choose the colour of light yourself. Rated IP20, it is made for indoor, dry rooms rather than bathrooms or outdoor walls.

We would put it in a hallway, on a landing or in a living room, where the white glass gives a gentler light than a ceiling light on its own. In a bedroom, a pair either side of the bed frees the bedside table from lamps. The half-moon sits with its flat edge uppermost, so it suits a plain painted wall as well as a busier room with shelving and pictures. Chrome pairs well with greys, whites and cool tones, and it gives a bright, clean edge in modern and more traditional homes alike. There is no switch on the fitting: it works from a wall switch in the room. It is a wired-in light for 220-240V mains, so a qualified electrician should install it.
