Description

The Lori pairs a shallow round ceiling plate in polished chrome with a single amber shade in a wine profile, tapering from a rounded body down to a narrower neck. At 15cm across it sits tight to the ceiling, so the fitting reads as a small bright point rather than a hanging shape. The E27 socket takes an ordinary screw-cap lamp, and with the right lamp and a compatible dimmer the level can be brought down for the evening.

We reach for this where a pendant would be in the way: hallways with a low ceiling, a landing, the turn of a staircase, a box room or a small study. Repeated down a corridor, these give an even wash of light without anything dropping into head height, and it is a useful choice where several ceiling lights need to match but none should dominate. It belongs in dry, heated rooms, so a bedroom or a snug rather than a shower room or a porch. The amber shade warms whatever lamp sits behind it, which suits older houses and darker paint colours.

The plate and neck are finished in polished chrome, bright enough to catch daylight and throw a little of the amber back at the ceiling. Keeping it clean is no trouble: turn the power off, let everything cool, lift dust from the shade with a soft brush, then bring the chrome back with a barely damp cloth and dry it straight away. It carries a one year warranty.
