Description
The Lori sits close to the ceiling, a shallow satin nickel plate with an opal shade below it drawn into a soft wine shape. At 15cm across it is a small fitting, quiet on a plain white ceiling and worth noticing when you glance up. It takes one E27 lamp of up to 20W, and the opal spreads that light evenly so nothing glares back at you from below. Dimming is possible with a compatible lamp and a separate dimmer.
We reach for this where a pendant would hang too low, which in most homes means a hallway, a landing, the turn of a narrow stair or a box room. It earns its place in a small bedroom with a low ceiling too, where anything on a drop would be in the way of a wardrobe door. Rooms need to stay dry, so we would keep it out of a bathroom and away from a shower room. Repeated along a corridor it reads as a run of neat points rather than a row of shades.
The satin nickel finish has a soft, low sheen that takes fingerprints less readily than a polished metal, and it sits happily beside brushed door furniture and switch plates. For cleaning, wait until everything is cold, wipe the opal with a barely damp cloth and dry it off before the light goes back on; the nickel wants nothing more than a dust. It carries a one year warranty. The same wine shade is offered on antique gold and on polished chrome, and elsewhere in the range you will find round globe and slim curved trapezium shades on the same shallow plate. Lamps are not included.

Frequently Asked
How far does it drop below the ceiling?
It stands 90mm proud of the ceiling, with a diameter of 150mm, so it stays well clear of head height in a hallway or on a landing.
What lamp should I use?
An E27 LED lamp rated up to 20W. Choose one sized and shaped to sit neatly within the opal shade so the glass looks even when lit.
Can I put it on a dimmer?
Yes, provided you fit a dimmable E27 lamp and a matching dimmer. Neither the lamp nor the dimmer comes with the light.
Is it suitable for a bathroom?
No. It is rated IP20, which means it belongs in dry rooms such as bedrooms, hallways, landings and studies.
How do I keep the opal shade looking clean?
Switch off at the wall and let it cool, then wipe the glass with a cloth wrung out in warm water and dry it. Avoid sprays and abrasive creams, which can mark the nickel.
Does it come in other finishes?
The wine shade is also offered with an antique gold finish and with polished chrome.
