Three small round globes hang in a row from a slender polished chrome bar, each shade open at the mouth so light drops cleanly downwards as well as glowing through the shade itself. The glass reads clear with a smoke cast, dark enough to hide the lampholder yet light enough that the fitting never blocks a view across a room. Each globe measures 80mm across and the bar spans 850mm, and the suspension is adjustable, so the row can sit tucked up close to the ceiling or hang low over a table.

A linear pendant like this follows the line of a narrow dining table or a kitchen island far better than a single central fitting, and we would hang it there first. It also suits a long hallway or a landing where one light leaves the ends dim. Because the drop adjusts over a wide span, it copes with tall Victorian rooms as readily as with a standard modern ceiling height. The fitting can be dimmed if you pair dimmable lamps with a compatible dimmer, which is worth thinking about early if the light is going over a table you eat at.

The bar and the lampholder cups are finished in bright polished chrome, and the globe shades are held below them. Cleaning is a two part job: a dry microfibre cloth to keep the chrome from spotting, then a barely damp cloth on the glass, wrung out well and used only once the power is off and the lamps have cooled. Nothing abrasive on either surface. The wider Lori range runs to single-light flush fittings in the same polished chrome, with globe, trapezium or wine shades, and in antique gold if you want something warmer. The drop adjusts from 270mm at its shortest to 2270mm at its longest, measured from the ceiling to the fitting.

What lamps does it take?

It takes three E27 lamps, each rated to a maximum of 20W. LED is the sensible choice here, and the lamp shape you pick should suit the size of the globe shade.

Can I dim it?

Yes, provided you use dimmable lamps and a dimmer switch suited to them. No dimmer is supplied with the fitting.

How wide is the fitting overall?

The bar is 850mm long, with the globes measuring 80mm in diameter, so allow roughly a metre of clear span.

Is it suitable for a bathroom?

No. It is rated for dry rooms only, so keep it to kitchens, dining rooms, hallways and living spaces.
