Five slim curved trapezium shades in amber hang from a round chrome plate, each tapering to a narrow mouth so the light falls in soft columns rather than a broad wash. Polished chrome picks up the warm tint of the shades and repeats it around the plate, which measures 45cm across and keeps the group tidy overhead. The drop is adjustable, so the shades can sit up close beneath the ceiling or hang low where you want them.

We reach for this over a dining table or a kitchen island, where a single pendant can look thin against a long run of worktop and a row of small shades reads better. It also works in a hallway with height to spare, hung well down the stairwell. The amber shades warm whatever lamp you put behind them, which suits evening rooms and softens the effect of cooler LEDs. Each socket takes an E27 lamp, and with suitable lamps and a compatible dimmer the light can be taken down low. Keep it to dry rooms indoors, away from bathrooms and anywhere exposed to weather.

The frame and ceiling plate are finished in polished chrome, and the shades are amber, curved along their length so each stays slim rather than bulky. Dust the chrome with a dry cloth so nothing dulls the polish, and wipe the shades with a barely damp cloth once the lamps have gone cold. It carries a one year warranty. The same slim curved trapezium shade turns up elsewhere in the range on a small flush fitting, in clear and chrome as well as amber, and against antique gold metal if you prefer a warmer tone. Lamps are not included.

What lamps does it need?

It takes five E27 lamps, each rated up to 20W. LED lamps are the sensible choice here, and lamps are supplied separately.

How far down does it hang?

The drop is adjustable from 270mm at its shortest to 2270mm at its longest, so it can be set high in a low room or dropped well down over a table.

How wide is it, and how heavy?

The ceiling plate measures 450mm in diameter and the fitting weighs 6.5kg.

Can I put it on a dimmer?

Yes, provided you use dimmable lamps with a compatible dimmer. No dimmer is supplied with it.

Can it go in a bathroom?

No. It is rated IP20, which suits living rooms, dining rooms, kitchens, hallways and bedrooms rather than wet or steamy spaces.

How should I clean the shades?

Switch off at the wall and let the lamps cool, then wipe each shade with a soft cloth, barely damp, and dry it straight away so no water marks are left on the chrome.
