Five open-mouth globes hang from a single round chrome plate, each on its own suspension, so the group can be set level for a low, tight cluster or stepped at varying heights for something looser. The plate measures 45cm across and the drop adjusts up to 2.27m, which gives real scope over a table or in a room with height to fill. Clear and smoke glass keeps the lamps in view and the whole fitting visually light.

We reach for this one where a single pendant would look mean over a long dining table, and it does just as well in a stairwell or a tall hallway where the globes can be staggered down the void. Each holder takes an E27 lamp, and the fitting will dim if you pair suitable lamps with a compatible dimmer; neither comes with it. It suits a room where the glass reads against a plain wall or ceiling rather than a busy backdrop, and it sits happily above a kitchen island or a run of open shelving.

Frame and suspensions are finished in polished chrome, bright enough to pick up daylight as well as the light of the lamps. Glass this clear shows every fingerprint, so lift the dust from each globe with a dry microfibre cloth and go over the chrome after, with the power off and the glass cool; if anything needs more than that, a barely damp cloth on the metal alone is plenty. It carries a one year warranty. Elsewhere in the Lori range there are small single-light flush fittings in the same polished chrome, some of them with round globe shades, if you want something to answer it on a landing or in a cloakroom. Lamps are not included.

How many lamps does it take, and what is the maximum wattage?

It takes five E27 lamps, each rated to a maximum of 20W. LED lamps are the sensible choice here, and the shape you pick will show through the clear glass, so a neat round or globe lamp looks best.

Can the height of each globe be changed?

Yes. The suspensions are adjustable, from a minimum drop of 270mm to a maximum of 2270mm, so you can hang them all level or stagger them.

Is it dimmable?

It is, provided you fit dimmable lamps and a dimmer switch suited to them. No dimmer is supplied with the fitting.

Are the shades one colour or two?

The globes combine clear and smoke glass, set against the polished chrome of the plate and suspensions.

Where can it be used?

Dry indoor rooms only, at IP20. A dining room, hallway, stairwell or living room suits it; a bathroom zone or anywhere exposed to weather does not.

How heavy is it?

The fitting weighs 5.8kg net, before lamps.
